“Between Dream and Day” is about the brief interval when the night has let go and the day has not yet begun. At this hour the water holds both states at once: dense and almost ultramarine below, still keeping the dark, then opening into light towards the horizon, where the sky settles onto it in long warm bands. White marks of boats and glints are scattered across the surface like the first sounds of a shore waking up.
Acrylic allows fast work in washed, layered strokes, and the painting keeps that sense of being unfixed: the borders between sky, water and shore are deliberately left undrawn. The canvas was painted in the open air, during Art Festival «Art by the Red Sea» on the Red Sea coast in Hurgada, Egypt — a large format made directly in front of the water, in the very light it describes.
