Beneath the Winter Dome

In winter, Saint Petersburg has a special way of feeling real. When snow falls slowly and evening settles over the city, the dome of St. Isaac’s Cathedral seems to hold this moment — calm, thoughtful, unmistakably Petersburg. At times like this, you notice the light in the windows, a few scattered streetlights, the quiet where words feel unnecessary. The city slows down and feels closer, warmer than you would expect in winter.

This painting grew out of that feeling — of Saint Petersburg in winter, when the cold stays outside and inside there is a simple, unexpected sense of calm and home.
